Above is a video of Subterranean Homesick News or BBC Dylan - News 24 Revisited, our hack entry to Mashed 2008 that won the O’Reilly Prize at the 24 hour hack.

BBC Mashed 2008 at Alexandra Palace, London

This was a humorous endeavour (with semi-serious undertones) built by Team Bob (James Adam, Ben Griffiths and me.) James Adam has done a nice write-up on his blog. We also built some stuff that didn’t get used in the end, which would have allowed us to present contextual data such as maps/pictures of places, pictures of people or further information as you’re watching the programme, but in the end we decided to keep it focussed.

It was a real pleasure to be coding with such talented and knowledgeable programmers as James and Ben (and they’re really nice guys too!) We presented on stage with Ben doing the talk, me operating real cards, Bob Dylan style and James as puppet-master pulling the strings and running our hack.

There are nice blog entries of the event and a list of winners/participants on TechCrunch and The Guardian (“Folksonomy with a bit more folk and a bit less sonomy” [credit to Ben]), The Guardian again and the BBC.

Update I discovered Chris Cook had uploaded a video of our presentation onto Flickr:

and there are a couple of photos too.
